Difficult conversations are part and parcel of the education process. You may be required to be involved in disciplinary procedures in which you need to deal with sensitive issues. As an educator you may already be attuned to read the nonverbal behaviour of your pupils, however are you aware of what your own body is doing while you have these difficult interactions?
Imagine being able to truly understand a student’s nonverbal behaviour, or imagine being able to control how they perceive you, and to soften the impact of these difficult conversations. Avoiding negative nonverbal behaviour should lessen the chance of further conflict and more serious disciplinary processes. This workshop is designed to help you do all of this and more, including teaching you how to disengage non-verbally in order to reduce conflict and reduce negative defend-attack cycles (where one party becomes defensive and attacks back verbally).
Areas we will cover include:
- Building rapport and trust indicators
- Micro-expressions: Decoding human emotion
- Understanding negative nonverbal gestures
- Deception detection (full day workshops only)
- Methods to reduce conflict and build understanding
This training will help you engage in more productive conversations, reduce conflict and actually make you feel more confident to achieve a successful outcome. In addition you will be able to build stronger rapport and trust connections for the long-term.
